10.71.3.1 LaTeX distribution that can be installed on Windows 7?

I am trying to use LaTeX on my windows 7 hp laptop. 
I used to use LaTeX with MIKTEX and Texmaker on this laptop for about 5 years. 
Yesterday, I was running a tex file and got a missing package warning....

10.71.3.2 PdfLatex changed behaviour

I have just  updated pdflatex to  3.141592653-2.6-1.40.26 (MiKTeX 24.4). Since the day I started using TeX 30+ years ago up to today, the console output of the engine were always the page numbers side-...

10.71.3.3 Tikz externalization with luacode

I'm using luacode environments to assemble plot code for pgfplots. For many plots that works perfectly fine even with tikzexternalize. However, I have one plot where it does not work and the error ...
