I am writing a thesis report using LaTeX and I need to add indentations because every new paragraph starts from the initial position on the left.
How do I add indentations?

https://tex.stackexchange.com/landing/r/digest?cta=question&id=17528

I want the equation number to be shown only at the last line, or better, somewhere in the middle of all. So instead of (1), (2), ... only (1).
I use \begin{align} ... \end{align}

What is the "best LaTeX practices" for writing absolute value symbols? Are there any packages which provide good methods?
Some options include|x| and \mid x \mid, but I'm not sure which is best...

10.24.2.4 Command for argmin or argmax?

https://tex.stackexchange.com/landing/r/digest?cta=question&id=5223

How can you get the argmin or argmax in Latex? Two solutions I found are:
\underset{x}{\operatorname{argmax}}
\DeclareMathOperator*{\argmin}{arg\,min}
Any other ideas?

It's easy to make subscripts in math mode: $a_i$.
How do I make a subscript outside math environment, likethis?

Often assignments (or even papers) have a word count limit. That is not a big deal when using Word, but I don't know how to do that using LaTeX. My solution has been so far to compile the document and ...

I have a table that is just a little too wide for a 3.33" column. Is there a way to simply shrink the table a little to make it fit? I'm OK if the 10pt font becomes 9pt-something. Here is an example.
