We can input *, TeX turns * into \cdot command. 
How can I change * by ".".

When entering Chinese in a table, despite trying to limit the column size with p{5cm}, the phrase isn't going to the line below.

There seem to be a whopping align, aligned, alignedat, alignat, xalignat, xxalignat and falign in amsmath / mathtools - some also in there starred version. 
I just find sloppy statements like:

In optics, the "dioptre" unit's symbol is I^\264 (lowercase delta). As long as I don't use unicode-math, the following code gives the expected result, but with it, the unit is missing in the ...
