https://tex.stackexchange.com/landing/r/digest?cta=question&id=38868

I have an equation contained inside \[...\], which automatically makes a \sum with sub- and superscripts turn big--so that the summation sign looks awkward inside parenthesis. Any idea how to make ...

Background
All book figures are set to "here definitely" (as they must come after the text that introduces them).
Problem
The list types (enumerated and bullet) have too much space between them. ...

What's the recommend way of changing the font size in a particular table? Is there a better way than enclosing all values with, for example, the \tiny function.
